2 words: Cross. Training.

yeah man.

what an awesome idea right. on top of your already strenuous TRAINING, you have to CROSS train. this means that, on top of mindlessly running all the time, you should do something ELSE that will help you work on other muscles, and help to strengthen the ones you need to run.

This is week 2 of cross training.

dont let my training complaints fool you - i actually LIKE cross training. its good for you. really it is. and i'd almost rather stretch it out, then sit there and collapse like normally. so, we can go over what exactly cross training is - or at least for our workout.

technically, you could bike, swim, do yoga, etc to serve as part of your cross training, but our workouts are slightly different. they involve 12 minute runs and then a series of warm up type exercises that stretch our different muscles. in sets. of 15. over and over.

hahah.

so - while i may have missed a week of updating (sorry about that, meant to after the first week of cross training, and then i spent another weekend running around another separate city...)

by the way - i hate treadmills. have we discussed this? i'm not really into them. besides thoroughly enjoying being OUTDOORS for training, treadmills do something to your legs as you keep going and going and going, and when you finally get off - your legs feel like rubber.

all wobbly like.

yeah - like that.

so anyway ... after our 12 minute run (6 min out, 6 min back)
we do a series of exercises:

calf raises - 3 types
toe raises
squats
penguin walking - week one only (involves this ... waddle of sort by walking on ur heels in different positions)
lunges - 4 types, including 'skate lunges'
planks - normal and side
pushups
step ups (on the park benches)
periformis (which we usu do in our stretching as well)

for more info on our lovely exercises, check out http://finishlinept.com/ under resources and check out stretching & strengthening for runners... (and see some lovely pictures showing how to do them)

and sidebar - super thank you and kudos for those of you reading up and sending me random emails and comments of support. means a lot.
7 weeks to go !!

(yes, i'm still nervous) training is going to get a lil more strict and super necessary, and i'll be adding thursdays to my week on a more regular basis to keep it going... fun fun fun!!

those of you NY based that are free this sat, hit me up and see what we've got going on! ;)

you could do swimming. a lot of people are getting into swimming because of michael phelps. millions of americans are already on the michael phelps diet, and they're not even trying!

I think i'm one of the only people who actually prefers treadmills. I can run 3x longer on them then on the street. On the street i become aware of distance and time, unlike on a treadmill where i can focus my attention on the back of the person running in front of me and zone out to the motion of our legs. The rubber legs is a side effect thats worth dealing with for the additional miles.
